WHY WE NEED TO REDEFINE SELF-CARE

By Kristen Kancler

"I’ve noticed that these days when women think of self-care, we typically talk about things like taking a candlelit bath, getting a manicure, or booking a day at the spa.
I’m all for these... in fact, they’re some of my favourite things...
However, these things are only helping us relax on the surface.
And yet we, as women, have been conditioned for generations to hold back our voices, dim our light, compare ourselves to others, take on more than we can handle, look a certain way, act a certain way, stay silent, or please others.
We’re holding decades of trauma in our bodies.
We’re holding deep, and often unconscious, patterns of stress and anxiety that cause us to criticize, blame, and abandon OURSELVES.
So if we only think about self-care as something we treat ourselves to for fun, to relax, or to indulge… we’ll never go deeper to break our conditioning and experience the deep-level healing that truly sets us free. And we’ll continue to suffer from the deeper roots of pain that go ignored.
Instead, we’ll continue to perpetuate the idea that CARING FOR OURSELVES is something that can wait or be put off for later.
And taking care of ourselves - especially now - needs to become NON-NEGOTIABLE.
So self-care doesn’t stop at taking a spa day.
It can’t stop there.
Because we, as women, truly need to care for ourselves and our wellbeing FAR beyond a 90-minute massage.
So, let’s REDEFINE self-care...
:
Self-care is claiming your worth
.
Self-care is speaking your truth
.
Self-care is having boundaries
.
Self-care is saying yes when you mean it
.
Self-care is saying no when you don’t
.
Self-care is knowing WHO YOU ARE - and being unf*ckable with
.
Self-care is healing your childhood wounds
.
Self-care is showing up and being visible
.
Self-care is owning your beauty - and your power
.
Self-care is loving with an vulnerable, open heart
.
Self-care is allowing yourself to receive with ease
.
Self-care is loving your body
.
Self-care is expressing yourself fully
.
Self-care is taking the leap
.
Self-care is trusting yourself
.
Self-care is letting go
:
Self-care isn’t just some fun, frivolous, or indulgent act.
Self-care is knowing you are worthy, not just of momentary bliss, but of owning who you are in the world, how you deserve to live, and what you are here to do.
REAL self-care will push you to your edges. It will take hard choices and decisions. It will call for strength and discipline. It will be uncomfortable.
This is what real self-care looks like.
It’s not easy. It takes COURAGE to take a stand for yourself and make yourself, your life, your wellbeing a PRIORITY.
And... every act will bring endless rewards.
Because taking care of yourself, your heart, your soul, your body, your being… and who you’re meant to be - fully - is the most important, loving, and honouring thing you can do in this life.
And you, my love, are worth it."
